Winter Classic

Ben bites it
Hey we are hosting a classic in madison on feb 10th

a few i deas, break up the teams a little

some way to do that. team champions is already split as well as milwaukes dynimos

can we interest the twin cities to come.

the winning team gets a hand job from me

also we could do some 2 player teams as well.

well keep it warm by burning fossil fuels and lumber. invite that shit eater pete di antoni to coome take pictures as wel las that medium format jock stap andrew from chicago.

fucking awsome food and desserts plus after party in an abandoned building near a national lube store

two on two

i like the idea of a two on two tourney. games would go faster, with less goal-keeping, more long passes, and more drinking whiskey or whatever the hell will be keeping us warm.

Also, maybe on the day before we'll throw a pond hockey tourney with ice bike polo during intermissions. so sharpen yer skates start making some ice tires.

One step ahead of

One step ahead of you.

in what sense?

in what sense?

In the sense that I'm

In the sense that I'm already working on the Twinks. I told them to prepare for a winter tourney the day before you made the official announcement.

I had been trying on and off all summer to encourage their game and get them to participate in the Mid Wests.

gotcha.

gotcha.

translation / disclaimer

The "abandoned building near a national lube store" is a restaurant/catering project in the works that happens to be beside a Jiffy Lube.

In other words, Ben's reference to hand jobs AND a national lube store in the same post are merely coincidental. well, one should hope so, anyway.

2 on 2 might be fun

2 on 2 might be fun especially if you have to play with someone from another city.

also what type of play would this be? small inflatable ball, bigger inflatable ball? or lil beirut style?

in milwaukee we are in transitional times here. the lil beirut or coastie style is on its way as soon as we get the mallets built up.

ya we're going to pick up

ya we're going to pick up lil beirut style too so we can represent in toronto and at coastie tourneys.

we'll have to think about what style of play and get back to you. we have two courts side by side, and maybe we could have a battle of polo styles running side by each.

Tongue and foot out for extra oomph on the slapshoton a somewhat related note, i traded one of our size 0 inflatable ball to Crandall for one of your tiny ABPA balls. I'm now convinced that the size of the latter is ideal, but the number of panels is way too low, giving it too many sharp corners and making it bounce around way too much--even though it was your most worn-in ball. We once had a corporate-branded ball that was like a size -1 or something (see right), maybe we can find one of them again. Especially after all those gorgeous hail mary shots in the final game on Saturday, i think it will be impossible to completely give up the the inflatable ball for a roller hockey ball.

Balls

I agree about the balls. Small balls work well, it is something to look into but the quality of the balls that we got were really bad. I think our game hinges on long passes, long shots and precision play. I will look into better balls but i think smaller makes sense.

speaking of big balls

On our way to Milwaukee on Saturday, we were listening to some cock rock on the radio that was i think was the Badger football pregame show or something, and they played "Big Balls" by AC/DC, along with some other inspirational classics. Several of the cars in the caravan rocked out, driving alongside together on the i-94. At other moments i might have preferred Will Oldham's cover but i think some of the credit for the success by madbikepolo on Saturday goes to Bon Scott.

I've got big balls
I've got big balls
And they're such big balls
Dirty big balls
And he's got big balls
And she's got big balls
But we've got the biggest balls of them all

Maybe this should be the theme song for midwest bike polo.

To combine discussions:

To combine discussions: Small inflatable balls can be had at any number of on-line or brick and mortar sports stores. We used a pretty small rubberized one in Chicago (like dodgeballs) that we found in a walgreens, until we lost it.

Also from said retailers you can get collapsible goals in various sizes. I looked into it for the 2nd M-W's, but 30-60 bux a set plus the likelyhood of someone running into them and either hurting themselves or destroying the goal, equals leave it out. But it would solve the "top of goal" issue.

full speed breakaway

and resulting goal blocking strategies would be impacted. Attacker could ride the ball right into goal (and pass left of goal w/o dying) but defender would have to either give up and go wide or ride straight into the goal's crossbar.

I too like the smaller balls. Cause my limp fucking wrist can't wack the bigger ones.
