recap

there were 8 players from milwaukee, 6 from chicago, and 11 from madison. Jake and I cobbled together 9 mixed-city teams, as equally matched as possible. We were hoping to have 8 games for each team, against each team, and then play a semi-final and final round with the top 4 teams, but after 5 games we were happy/wet/sloppy/cold enough to move onto a playoff round with eight teams, mildly seeded, based on their records. the final game was Eric from MKE with Andrew and Dan Leif from Madison, who beat Jonny and Max from Madison and a lefty kid (Jake? from CHI?) zach from milwaukee.

then we feasted.

our real midwest tourney, with a-teams etc, will probably happen in May, maybe the first weekend, so as to not conflict with ESPIs etc. i think they'll be in Madison. probably small ball so that we midwesterners can get in some competitive small-ball play before Toronto. though there was some talk of maintaining once-a-year big-ball tourneys. we'll see...

Give me the story.

Ya, can we have a bit of a commentary here please.

Thanks for supporting the disaster that wasn't

We should also mention thanks to our sponsors, Death's Door Spirits for the gin and juice and a tent, Just Coffee, and Underground Food Collective for the food. Did i forget anyone?

oh yeah, thanks Craig for

And by leftie from Chicago, he means Joe.

The 4th Bi-Annual Mid West Bike Polo Champeenships were called for (possibly Saturday May 3rd AND) Sunday, May 4th 2008. It will be a small ball / little beruit rules hardcourt tournament, so that all the other mid-west teams will come and to prepare for the summer of contests ahead.

Madison has said it wants to plan the whole thing front to back on their own, which we can clearly trust them to do (this is me thanking you for a fun weekend). So, I'll just be showing up like any other schmuck with Egan's Rats, the St Louis Bike Polo crew. See you all there.

actually by left he means doesn't mean joe from chicago

or jake from chicago, he means zach from milwaukee. This was awesome, congrats to all who came out it was something special that we pulled off yesterday.

i'm glad this is all 100%

Never forget

Yeah good times. I wanna thank my team Jill and Jamie from madison it was a treat to finally play with you instead of against.

Thanks as well to Birdie for putting up with 9 stinky and drunk mke folks and too Melissa for letting us re start the dance party.

I gotta say the non-polo highlight of the weekend was watching state street drunk walkers in heels slipping on the frozen ass ground.

p.s. i need a picture of me for my new desktop background at the bike fed. so if anyone has a good one post it yo!

lost shoes?

I got stoned off of carmel and cannot find my shoes. Anyone have any information on a pair of brown and golden rod Nikes. If so please let me know.

Highlight of tournament= crazy games after tournament was over and everyone left. after it was all over madison was the only team left on the court so one could argue them to be the true winners of the day.

Thanks for everything to everyone

Brian from MKE

the sight of everyone mixing

the sight of everyone mixing that caramel into their beans is quite memorable. we have your shoes here in madison, and they may well be dry by May for the midwests.

Thanks caramel

Thanks to that caramel, I am also missing something - between nine and fourteen dollars, if found please contact me for instructions.

Big thanks for the great polo, food, misc. other things, weather and a place to stay, MADISON IS GREAT!!! Actually on that note, just keep any money you find, you deserve it.

I didn't realize until the end of the day that the apple cider had death's door gin in it. I read about them in a big Reader article a few months back. I'm happy to drink that stuff. Send them my thanks.
