At the thunderdome, not the

At the thunderdome, not the Roller Hockey Rink?

roller hockey only one court

if we are to play lots of games 16 teams, it may be difficult to do it in a day

its a little farther away, meaning max and jill would have to host the afterparty, but its a ton of fun to play there

thunderdome

The thunderdome is a good place to play. We are using wood to deal with the weak aspects of the court and it is working well. Things will be even better by the time we have a tournament.

jonny

Awesome

I like it. Screwing 1 X 6 to the bottom of the fence line is a great solution. You may even be able to bend it a little to get round corners.

And I agree that multiple courts is the way to go for tournaments.

Lets see a poster!! also

Lets see a poster!!

also repeating what bohl said is this going to be on the saturday?...and one day only?

also we are in agreement this will be small ball correct?

team JC your reign of terror is about to end!!!!!!
make sure you got that trophy all shined up and polished for Team Pabst

- Capt. Jake

poster's comin

it's almost done.

small ball.

our reign of terror will be extended.

then, the following weekend...

will be Lexington's first Invitational Tournament on Sunday the 11th. Any and all teams welcome to make the drive. Hardcourt games all day, with meet-and-greet events the night before for those who want to arrive a day early. Look for more info TBA at http://www.myspace.com/lexingtonbikepolo

directions

Awesome.

1-2 teams (more likely one) are coming up Friday from St Louis. We'll probably get into town late. Midnight~ish.

I'll print out a few of these rad posters and hand them out next weekend in Dayton.

9:30 am? Whew. Will there be breakfast?

good question...

we'll get back to you on that.

ya

there will probably be breakfast, from 9:30 to 10. we want to start playing by 10:30.

3 2 1 Polo

There we will be 1 or 2 teams from Columbia, Mo.

mke representation

we will have at least 3 teams probly 4 or 5 maybe 6 at the tourney.

Dream Team

Will Madison be fielding the terrible three, Team J.C.?
I heard one of the starters might be on the DL.
Will this open up the Champeenships to a Dayton-St Louis final game? Only time will tell.

those guys have gone into

those guys have gone into hiding.

mke vs. mke

final match will be mke team jake, joe, crandall vs another mke team.

thats my prediction

just sayin'

-capt. jake

just saying

that you made the same prediction last fall.

just sayin

I'm making it again
-jake

Columbia, MO is

Columbia, MO is psyched!
Look forward to meeting you all and drinking your beer.

actually, to the best of my

actually,
to the best of my knowledge, Columbia, MO isn't coming anymore due to one player (who also controlled the transportation) having rather severe personal things going on.
This is a bummer. I am bummed out. If any of you STL people are planning on going up hwy 63 through Iowa to get there, send me an email at apd8tc@mizzou.edu. I'd love to join your team / help you with gas.

Who needs a third?

I have booked a flight. I can't wait to be in The Thunderdome!
I can play ok and would like to get on a team, any team. Looking forward to it.

g'damn!

1. Columbia, MO? We need to set up friendlies between you and St Louis.
2. NYC? You should get a hold of Elton and represent your old hometown for this one.
3. Weighted groups seeding a bracket is the way we've done it before, and I like it. Make sure A and B teams from each city are spread out so participants don't drive 12 hours to reproduce their regular weekly games. But, what about game format? Matches? Timed? First to 5? How many teams are we looking at?

AWSOME!

I had no idea that teams from the extended Midwest and even farther were comming. BIG props for those people making the long commute, I truely look forward to meeting/playing you in Madison.

RE: Game Format
If no one has any objections- why not do it the same way as the last MWBPC? It seemed to work well and with an earlier start time, darkness shouldn't be a factor.

mke crandall

bracket

We hope to have a pretty good idea of who is coming ahead of time. Also seeding will be based off of the results from last falls tournament and then off of city rankings.

We will discuss games but i'm guessing that we use the format from last fall.

jonny

I dunno...

I like the idea of using the last tourney's rankings to load the brackets (very league-like) but I don't think that more than the top two teams from Fall '07 will have the same composition. Also, there were only 11 teams from 3 towns last time. You're already past that in RSVP's, ain'tcha?

An ahead-of-time system is cool, but really, I trust you to shuffle the spoke cards day-of to make sure that the groups are more or less evenly weighted. This trust is based on the fact that Jake and I will be leaning over your shoulders yelling at you.

from another self-designated authority on polo tourney organizin

i don't see how shuffling the cards day-of ensures that the groups are evenly weighted. it also risks having groups of teams all from the same city, and one of the things that people like about tourneys is playing against new people. one possibility is for each city to rank its teams, and we seed in a way that makes sure that each grouping has a mix of both cities and skillz. I worked with Jake on seeding for the Classic, sort of like this except on a player-by-player basis, and it worked well.

i'm hoping we have sixteen teams for easy tourneyfication. So far:

5 or 6 from MKE
4 from Madison
3 or 4 from CHI
3 from St Louis and Columbia MO

Lexington? Dayton? Columbus? MPLS?

-kevin

shuffling Vs. dealing

when he said shuffleing I think he meant dealing out the spoke cards to (my words) balance the cities and talent interestingly.

Doug D
Brooklyn, NY

Yes

that is what he meant. Jonny and I did it at the 2nd Mid Wests cos we had those color coded team spoke cards.

gotcha

i thought by shuffle you meant completely random.

Rules

There is going to be at least one team from columbia, mo coming and May we get a copy of the rules emailed to us?
My email is ZLEVXD@mizzou.edu

rules forthcoming

tho i think we will stick as closely as possible to the rules that will be used for the ESPIs and CMWC. these are pretty damn complete:

http://nycbikepolo.com/?page_id=17
http://dcfixed.com/espi/wp/?page_id=12

But there are some ongoing debates here:
http://www.hardcourtbikepolo.com/?cat=28

TBD:
- own goal and backwards-thru-the-net rules
- footdown rule (how many locations for tapping out? probably 2)

Format TBD:
- game length (timed and/or up to 5)
- number of games in the final bracket (best two of three?)

We'll send out more details a week or two before hand.

footdown rule

you only need one tap out point. anything more is only lessening the penalty for dabbing.
just my 2 cents. do what you will.

Oh man,

I just played three games with The Chicago Ambassadors 'A' team that went 5-0, 5-1, 5-4. You'll get a preview this weekend at the ESPI's, but I have to say; MAD, MKE, you guys are in serious trouble.

trouble

lucky, i dont think you know the tooth side from the backside of a blade, let alone business end from the shuffle. Chicago hasnt put a team in the final... ever. so bring your your team and that way Milwaukee will at least win a semi final, but never the cup

after party?

are the out of towners leaving right away, or going to stay and party? i've got plenty of carpeted floorspace and an itch to throw a dance party.
-bohl

Team(s) Missouri

plan on staying over Saturday night and caravaning out Sunday after breakfast. Although I don't know how much dancing we'll be able to do after playing all day and beating CHI in the championship match. That will be pretty tough on our legs.

BTW, where are we staying over those two nights?

we'll be figuring out

we'll be figuring out housing tues or wed. but it would help to have specific numbers, and whether you're hoping for friday and/or saturday. click "email" on the left and send a note.

I'd just like to point out

I'd just like to point out that this anonymous message wasn't my doing (I usually sign my threats and insults)... though I fully endorse its content.

Maya
