It has been awesome to see how many new people have come out to polo in the last couple of weeks. It has meant a lot of fun and making bike polo in madison much more stable. It is no longer three people hoping to find a fourth on a sunday afternoon. Also we are playing twice a week right now with games on sunday afternoon and sometime during the week but that fluctuates, email if you have questions. For the best bet on information join the list serve. Also just so everybody knows i'm reposting kevin's about us info as well as well as a few additional bits of information.
things you should know if you're thinking of playing
* everyone's welcome
* we play every sunday at 3pm. subject to change. to get in on the inevitable last-minute schedule changes, get on the madbikespolo email list. (click here to subscribe)
* we're usually a few minutes late to show up, cause we're usually fixing bikes right before hand, and you know how that goes.
gear
*We currently have enough bikes for everyone to play a 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 game. Most of the bikes are owned by individuals who play but they share so no worries. I'm probably going to be building out a few more in the next couple of weeks so we should be golden. So don't worry about brining a bike we have that covered. But if you do want to bring a bike the information is listed below.
* bring a bike you don't mind breaking. wheels are the number one thing that breaks, then brakes, then frames. sometimes we get through an entire afternoon without having to make a repair.
* consensus in madison is that one speeds are better, freewheels are better than fixed gears, and a high gear ratio (say, 39 teeth in the front and 20 in the back) is best. but whatever, we don't discriminate.
* We have about 12 mallets, though some are sometimes broken. we always need to be building more. but you don't need to bring one.
basic rules:
* if you put your foot down, you have to get out of the play.
* to score the ball has to be below wheel height
* don't throw your mallet, unless you're sure it's cool
* no cutting people off
* don't be an asshole
we play at reynold's park, which is here.
