The Midwest Championships

I'm going to be throwing out a few ideas here. First i think it is time that we only hold one midwest tournament a year. The Championships has been held together by Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison and now it seems like St. Louis is in it for the long haul. That is great but in order to bring more cities in and more teams for participating cities i propose that we make the tournament a once a year contest. This will provide more hype and better sponsorship opportunities to the tournament. This means that we hold the fall tournament in St. Louis in October/November and then next fall the next one is held in the city that either wins its choice or rather a delegation puts in a bid. On top of that i think we should hold the tournament earlier in the year, say early october or september, nice weather little chance of rain and not a lot of other tournaments in the play at that time. Obviously that would have to be picked out in the future but it is an idea.
To further push the idea forward Madison will be holding a tournament in the Spring each year. There were some ideas about making the Winter Classic our tournament (we have possible indoor location for next year) or doing something in late April or early May. We will probably decide soon, and it will probably follow the ESPI's. Milwaukee has the MMI tournament and i think city tournaments are really a good idea and tons of fun.

Okay, there it is,

jonny

spring tournament

how does this drive the one tournament idea?

ya i think there will be

ya i think there will be lots of tournaments, every city will probably host want to host one every year. and then one midwest city holds an annual midwest freak show, à la ESPIs.

So, basically...

...you're proposing that there be two tournaments; one fall, and one spring. That Madison hosts one every year (which will not be called the BIMWBPC) and the fall one (which will) rotates cities? All you're doing here is applying for permanent hosting duties and renaming the spring contest.

I'm not against the idea of going to one a year. We made it bi-annual because it was so much fun to compete and meet the other people playing regionally. Now there are lots of opportunities to do that and more playing polo.

i'm proposing more

autonomy for cities in calling their own tournaments for sure. But i also think that it benefits the MWPC to make it a once a year event. Increases visibility and increases the importance of the tournament in the general field. Madison has already been holding tournaments once a year i would say that our tournament would have a different feel and style then the MWPC in the past have had.

an idea

how about giving the trophy to those who one it this year....*cough cough**

one it?

1 it, what the fuck is that

You're not

really the one to criticize people's spelling.

And where is the dang cup anyway?

woops

I sent the cup to doug in nyc.

HELL YEAH!!

Yo send me that! I wanna put next to the rest of the trophy's

The Mid Wests

so far, have been a very regional contest. CHI, MAD, MKE, and sometimes one other. We are still struggling against game styles and drive times to involve all the clubs in the area.

If we make it a little bigger deal, once a year, with better prizes, sponsors, and what not (i.e. more like the ESPIs), it may become more of a destination tournament. For both the MW teams we haven't seen and coastal teams. How you feel about that may depend on how you feel about establishing true regional league play feeding limited-entry season-ending championship tournaments.

However, assuming that the MWBPCs stays a smaller event, where you're more likely to play with people you've played with before, big chances for rivalries to develop, incubation for new techniques and strategies, etc. Would you rather see it as a season opener (once a year in the spring) or a season closer (once a year in the fall)?

Personally, I'd rather start the traveling season with friendly faces. So I vote once a year in spring. Madison can host an invite in winter or fall.
